While its still not cleared out if the title will be called "Call of Duty 6: MW2" or just "MW2" some ingame-mode facts came through lately:
Some of these details that were leaked:
No co-op in story mode, but separate missions reminiscent of CoD4’s Mile High Club include cooperative multiplayer.
In the wintery bits of the game, snowmobiles will be used to escape attack, but it’s unclear whether players will be driving or shooting from the vehicles. Ice walls can also be climbed by alternating between the two triggers.
A live-patching system will be implemented for online multiplayer, forgoing the need for a downloadable patch.
Game will run at 60 frames-per-second, with better detail than CoD4.
Riot shields, movable turrets and customized weapons for single-player enemies were mentioned.
Gameplay’s a bit more open-ended than CoD4 but is still linear.
Stealth can now be used if you like.
Infinity Ward’s working on fixing enemy respawn issues (CoD4’s enemies would constantly respawn unless a player crossed a certain line).
The single-player campaign will be longer than it was in CoD4.
Also according to PSM3, a UK based magazine:
Swimming mode enabled.
A ‘Stealthy’ Oil pipeline Scuba Mission will be included in campaign mode.
A level will definetly be based in Rio De Janeiro.
Siberian Level will feature in campaign mode.
Vehicles (e.g. Trucks, Tanks etc.) will be introduced into the Modern Era.
A ‘Helicopter Based’ Level will be featured.
An Oil Tanker level will also be featured.
Ken Lally (Wesker from Resident Evil 5) will be voice acting. Most likely as a Russian villain.
During an Activision Blizzard earnings call earlier today, CFO Thomas Tippl announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released this holiday season. The game is under development at the company's Infinity Ward studio, the same place that developed the first Modern Warfare title. We really don't know any specifics about the game at this time, such as whether or not it's a direct sequel (or prequel?) to the first or if any of the characters from CoD4 will be returning. Hopefully we'll be seeing the game soon and can clear up these nagging questions. As the sequel to our 2007 Game of Year, we've got high hopes for this one!
Just announced, Call of Duty 6 will be known as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and will arrive some time in 2009.
Activision Blizzard made this announcement along with others as part of their "Massive Inc. upfront". An upfront is an event where publishers show off their upcoming titles to advertisers and the media.
Details about Modern Warfare 2 are not yet known, but expect more news in the upcoming weeks and months. It is anticipated that Modern Warfare 2 will be handled by Infinity Ward.

Call of Duty 6 was decided to hit the markets in 2009, but Game Cyte announced that they were wrong. Check it out:
At Activision Blizzard’s analyst day in Santa Monica, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith just revealed that Call of Duty 6 is being developed by Infinity Ward for a 2010 release… and that the company has every intention to “monetize” the series’ newfound online popularity with both it and Call of Duty: World at War.
Though Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick had previously confirmed a new Call of Duty would appear in 2009, Griffith told attendees and online listeners that “for calendar year 2010, Infinity Ward is already at work on the next installment in the franchise.”
The announcement was bookended by discussions of the franchises’ potential for, shall we say… alternate revenue streams. “The average Call of Duty player has spent five full 24-hour days playing online,” Griffith proudly proclaimed, “and over time, we’ll find ways to increase the monetization of this opportunity.” Though Griffith did not provide details, he mentioned that Call of Duty 5 would begin this initiative by providing two forms of downloadable content — regular, and an all-new premium form of DLC he dubbed “Day 1 Advantage.”
We’ll try not to read too much into that name.
While Griffith made no mention of aliens or spaceships appearing in the next CoD, he did say that the success of the series has enabled the company to consider “new theaters, new plotlines,” and even “new gametypes.”
A nice quote from this article, "Infinity Ward to Develop, Activision Blizzard to Monetize".
In March 2002, coalition forces have won the North-East of Afghanistan, known lair of the Taliban and terrorist al-Qaida, in order to dislodge. Dubbed the code-named Anaconda, the operation consisted of an international offensive to coerce the enemy and to abandon the caves and other points of support in which he had cut to him and offered key positions over Shahikot Valley. Driven from their lair and trapped, the rebels had no alternative but to retreat in low-lying plains of Shahikot. There, the coalition troops were able to encircle and tighten the vise to force them to surrender their weapons (hence the name "Anaconda").
This was one of the greatest disasters of modern history.
The new MOH is based on events that have marked this operation. By way to Tokur Ghar, a Navy SEAL helicopter came under fire sporadic rocket launchers. During this incident, the owner of 1st Class Neil Roberts fell east of the Chinook landed 30 metres down in the snow. Unable to rescue the helicopter crashed 6 kilometers further. The huge contingent deployed in the Shahikot then has been more than an idea in mind: to assist Robert. But the stock has increased, other rapid Rangers, one of the best trained units of the army, has set up an attack against full of heroism. She was able to secure the mountain and allow the evacuation of all involved, dead or alive.
The new Medal of Honor you contera history of the heroes who helped save Operation Anaconda of the disaster. As it unfolds, players will play multiple responsibilities, engaging the enemy in the skin of a simple soldier in the group "mortar", in command of a drone attack, among combatants on the front or the snipers, to name a few. The intensity of this game shooting the 1st person, the realism of the image and some 60 customizable weapons waiting for you, you will relive the terrible scenario of an operation which would leave you gasping for air.

I knew there were a lot of us out there, but just how many? Well, I received the reports this week and it looks like our COD4 online community stands at over 10 million strong (Xbox 360 / PS3)! That’s all unique players too, so 10 million different people have logged on for online multiplayer since buying the game in November. Those stats don’t include people who have never logged into MP, only those apart of the Online Community.
That’s insane. With a little over a million players logging in everyday for multiplayer, I can’t say I’m too surprised. It’s awesome to think that we’re all part of building something so massive, and when I say we, I mean me, you, all of us. Everyone who logs on to play with their friends, reads the blog, contributes on the forums, took part in the beta. You guys shaped this game and what it is today. We have one massive, powerful, community and all of you should be proud because there is honestly no other game community I’d rather be a part of. So when I say this, know that I mean it… THANK YOU!!!
We have some new multiplayer playlists in the works to breath even more life into multiplayer, in addition to that I’m working on a few other things behind the scenes that I can’t talk about just yet (in case they don’t come to fruition).
Interesting that the PC players/numbers were not included.
DMW Pro is the name of our next anti-cheat solution, with such a radical update we felt it deserved a new name. The new DMW is not only vastly more advanced than the current DMW system, its also highly intelligent. The new software works with great communication to achive on the fly updates, unique queries and checks for each player, and instant admin monitor system. The cheaters just dont have anywhere to go, they cant test their cheats, cant share their cheats, the era of selling bypasses is over.
New Features
Improved communication layer, now faster and more secure.
DMW Microcode updates, This feature will make cheaters think twice before trying to cheat, no longer do you have to rely on whether the current DMW client is detecting all the latest cheat. The Microcode system allows the DMW team to add new definitions and advanced checks to the client without the need of an update, or even the need to leave the game your playing. If a player fails a check sent via Microcode they will be removed from the server, and if applicable will be banned from DMW.
Mathmatical challenge and reponse system, using complex mathmatics against the code and data of the game and DMW software, the challenge and response system elimates the ability for hackers to patch the software, leaving them even less areas to hack with.
Professional Heuristic Engine, detecting private bypasses has never been easier.
Advanced hidden module detection system, most cheats hide there modules or injected code in memory hoping they wont be detected. This new system tracks down any stray code, and reports it to the pre-emptive system for inspection.
